Your Main Tasks

  • Cultivation of healthy and engineered human iPS/ES cells, maintenance, and differentiation to retinal pigment epithelial cells (RPE), retinal organoids and co-culture of two or three cell types.
  • Characterization and functional analysis of retinal organoids/RPE using fluorescence microscopy, image analysis, flow cytometry, FACS, MACS, fluorescence/luminance-plate reader, gene expression analysis & histology.
  • Perform in vitro pharmacology studies, development & establishment cell-based assays to evaluate mechanisms of action.
  • Work independently with minimal supervision. Plan and execute experiments, analyze, interpret, accurately document (electronic lab notebook) and communicate data in team meetings.
  • Involvement in cell culture lab management and organization.
  • Background and extensive experience in human iPSC/ESCs is a prerequisite and experience in drug discovery research/pharma/biotech.
  • Completed training as a BTA/CTA/MTA/biology lab technician with work experience or BSc/MSc in Life sciences (biology, biotechnology, genetic engineering) or other relevant area.
  • Hands-on experience in luminescence/fluorescence plate-based assays, flow cytometry, cell sorting (MACS / FACS), cryo-sectioning, immunohistochemistry, fluorescence microscopy, image analysis, gene and protein analysis.
  • Knowledgeable with various genetic perturbation methods (gene editing, RNAi, viral transduction etc.) and validation assays.
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills (fluent in German and English) including attention to detail. Additional languages are an asset.
